Conversion From Metal

Our design team will review your existing cast, machined or fabricated metal component and make recommendations as to the feasibility of converting it into a plastic part. This will include the internal web structure of the part to give it strength and material selection using engineering polymers to meet temperature specifications.

Convert your original metal component into one moulding operation, in a choice of colours and materials, with no wastage and even include your company name or logo!

A 48% saving was made by converting this part from a metal fabrication to plastic.

The component shown is used as an indicator on petrol tankers. It used to be a welded metal fabrication and then painted. We now mould this in grey plastic around metal inserts and glue in place an acrylic window, which we also mould. Structural integrity and careful selection of materials were important aspects of the new design.

Low Cost Tooling From Manumold

Manually Moulded Component

This complex component enables a paper print out from an electronic measuring instrument to be torn off from the roll. The requirement is for batches of just 200 and so conventional injection mould tooling would have made the unit cost exorbitant. By careful Manumould tool design, including detachable inserts to create the paper path, the tooling costs became only 20% of the conventional alternative.

Just a few examples of how PMP can reduce the cost of your injection moulding!

  • Multi Component Tooling - reduces the cost of tool design and manufacture

  • Prototype tooling can be updated for full production

  • Costly metal components can be replaced with tough plastic parts

  • Our Manumold process does not require expensive tooling for threaded or ejection of parts

  • PMP’s Manumold process enables product development changes without committing to major investment
