The traditional method of dealing with the problems of RFI is to fabricate a metal box or enclosure and carry out a spraying or coating process with RFI insulating materials. It sounds expensive and it is!
Advances in polymer engineering have created materials containing, for example stainless steel strands to combat RFI. This means the finished component can be moulded in one operation thus dramatically reducing cost and there is no separate coating to break down and fail. Other developments include ceramic filled polymers, which are very efficient heat conductors that help to keep temperatures down in complex electronic systems.
